Characteristics

Shrub or small tree, 1.5–5 m. tall, the stems with pale shiny epidermis peeling to reddish grey beneath, glabrous.. Leaf-blades oblong to ovate-oblong, 4–14.5 cm. long, 1.7–6.8 cm. wide, shortly obtusely acuminate at the apex, cuneate to ± rounded at the base, drying olivaceous, ± discolorous, glabrous save for small pubescent domatia beneath; petiole 4–8 mm. long; stipules joined to form 1.5–3 mm. long sheath, pilose inside, the appendages subulate 2–5 mm. long, blackish on drying, deciduous.. Cymes 2-flowered; peduncle (1.5–)4–5 mm. long; pedicels 2–4 mm. long; bracts obsolete or ± 1 mm. long.. Buds shortly acuminate.. Calyx-tube 1–1.2 mm. long, the limb ± 0.5 mm. long, truncate or shortly toothed.. Corolla pale greenish yellow; tube funnel-shaped, 3 mm. long, with a ring of scale-like deflexed hairs inside; lobes pale yellow inside, 2.5–3.5 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, shortly apiculate but not appendaged.. Ovary 2-locular.. Fruits usually didymous, 1–1.1 cm. long, 1.3–1.5 cm. wide, 6.5 mm. thick, the pedicels up to 1.5 cm. long and peduncle up to 7 mm.; pyrenes 1–2, 1 cm. long, 7–8 mm. wide, 5–6.5 mm. thick.
