Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m. (erect and very divaricately branched fide Robyns); branches densely spreading yellowish pubescent when young but later glabrous, very dull purplish brown.. Leaf-blades oblong, 2.5–8.5 cm. long, 1–3.5 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate to rounded at the base, densely shortly adpressed yellowish pubescent on both surfaces; petiole ± 2 mm. long; stipules 1[–2.5 mm.] long, pubescent outside, densely hairy inside, brownish membranous, with pubescent subulate appendage 1–4 mm. long.. Inflorescences 1–2-flowered; peduncle very short; pedicels 1 cm. long, lengthening to 1.8 cm. in fruit.. Calyx-tube 1.5 mm. long, densely pubescent, the limb with 5–6 triangular teeth ± 1 mm. long.. Buds pubescent, up to 10 mm. long, apiculate.. Corolla pubescent outside [greenish yellow]; tube subcylindrical, 5 mm. long, with a ring of deflexed hairs inside below the throat; corolla-lobes glabrous inside, pubescent outside, with appendages 2.5 mm. long.. Anthers 2.75–3 mm. long, with distinct basal appendages.. Ovary 4-locular; style 7–8 mm. long; stigmatic club 1.5 mm. long, 4-lobed.. Fruit ellipsoid, 0.8–1.3 cm. long, 8(–10) mm. wide, pubescent, with 1–2(–3) pyrenes.
