Characteristics

Shrub ± 2 m. tall; stems dark purple-brown, minutely fissured and peeling in small pieces, glabrous.. Uppermost young leaves often lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, ± 4 × 1–1.5 cm., tapering at apex, cuneate at base, later leaves oblong up to 5 cm. long, 3 cm. wide, mostly shortly obtusely acuminate at the apex, ± rounded at the base, ± discolorous, glabrous, without domatia, venation evident and reticulate beneath in dry state but not raised; petioles short, scarcely 1 mm. long; stipule-bases joined to form a sheath 1–1.5 mm. long, white-villous inside, the appendage subulate, 3–5 mm. long, at length deciduous.. Inflorescences 2-flowered; peduncle 3–11 mm. long; pedicels 3–7 mm. long; bracts small, 0.5–1.5 mm. long, not opposite.. Buds subobtuse or minutely apiculate, glabrous.. Calyx-tube campanulate, 1.5–2 mm. long, the limb narrow, hyaline, ± 0.2 mm. tall, minutely denticulate.. Corolla cream; tube 1.8 mm. long, with ring of matted hairs at top inside; lobes oblong, 2.2 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, acute but not appendaged.. Anthers ± 1 mm. long, the connective with a small muricate appendage.. Ovary 2-locular; style 3.2 mm. long, slightly swollen at the base, the stigmatic club truncate-obconic, 0.8 mm. long, sulcate..
