Characteristics

Shrub to 1 m.; stems slender, glabrous, the older parts with thin peeling purplish brown epidermis, the surface straw-coloured beneath.. Leaves borne mainly on short lateral branches in 4–6 pairs; blades elliptic-lanceolate or elliptic, 1.2–6.5 cm. long, 0.8–2.5 cm. wide, rounded to acuminate at the apex, the tip rounded, cuneate at the base, thin, glabrous above or with short seta-like hairs on midrib and with similar hairs on the midrib beneath and on petiole, also the margins ciliate; petiole 0.5–1 mm. long; stipule-bases 1–1.5 mm. long, with divergent subapical subulate appendage 1–4 mm. long, the longer ones rather curved.. Cymes 2-flowered; peduncle ± 1–4 mm. long; pedicels 2.5–6 mm. long, elongating to 2.3 cm. in young fruit, sparsely bristly pubescent.. Calyx-tube narrow, 0.5 mm. long, with spreading ± lobed limb 0.5 mm. tall.. Buds yellow, subglobose, shortly acutely acuminate to prominently caudate, the appendages ± 1–2 mm. long, very sparsely pilose outside.. Corolla-tube infundibular, 2 mm. long, with ring of deflexed hairs inside; lobes 2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, spreading setulose outside, minutely puberulous inside, with appendage to 2 mm. long.. Ovary 2–4-locular.. Fruit globose, 7 mm. long and wide, the pedicels 8–10 mm. long; pyrenes 1–4.
