Characteristics

Corolla with very short tails in bud; glabrous outside, greenish; tube 3–4 mm long, cylindrical or slightly urceolate, hairy at the throat and with a ring of deflexed bristly hairs about the middle; lobes c. 2–2.5 × 1–1.8 mm including the short apiculum, ovate.

Leaves 3–7.5 × 1.5–3.5, oblong, oblong-ovate or ± elliptic, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, discolorous, glabrous; petiole 1–2 mm long; stipular sheath 1.5 mm long, pubescent, with a subulate appendage 4–5 mm long.
Shrub up to 4 m tall; young stems mostly glabrous but sparsely setose-pubescent in places, particularly at the nodes; older stems grey, ridged, densely but not very conspicuously lenticellate.
Calyx tube c. 1.5 × 2 mm, cup-shaped, glabrous but micro-papillate; lobes about 1–2 × 1–1.5 mm, triangular, slightly joined at the base, more or less spreading, glabrous.
Flowers in 5–10-flowered axillary fascicles, forming nodal clusters; peduncles ± obsolete; pedicels 3.5–4.5 mm long.
Pollen presenter 1 mm long, narrow, 5-lobed.
Anthers apiculate, just exserted.
Style exserted 1 mm.
Ovary 5-locular.
