Characteristics

Scandent shrub with slender branches probably several m. long or ± erect shrub 2.5–3 m. tall; branches densely covered with somewhat bristly yellowish hairs when young but at length glabrous.. Leaves paired; blades oblong-elliptic or narrowly elongate-elliptic, (1–)5–9.5(–12) cm. long, (0.4–)1.4–4.4(–5.5) cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, the acumen very narrowly rounded, rounded to subcordate at the base, rather densely covered with somewhat bristly yellowish ± adpressed hairs 1.5–2 mm. long, particularly on the nerves beneath and both sides of the midrib the hairs on this being set at right-angles; petioles 2–3 mm. long; stipule-bases joined to form an annulus 0.5 mm. tall with linear appendages 3–7(–11) mm. long.. Flowers solitary, axillary, but sometimes that from terminal leaf-pairs appearing to be terminal; pedicels 0.8–1(–1.8 in fruit) cm. long, densely covered with patent bristly yellow hairs.. Calyx-tube subglobose, ± 2 mm. long, white pilose; lobes filiform-subulate, 1–2 mm. long, bristly pubescent.. Buds with 5 long tails.. Corolla green or yellow, white pilose outside; tube 3 mm. long, pubescent below throat inside, glabrous beneath; lobes narrowly triangular, 3 mm. long, with long linear appendages 4–5 mm. long.. Ovary 3-locular; style 3.5 mm. long; stigmatic club coroniform, 1.2 mm. wide, irregularly 3-lobed above.. Fruit greenish white or becoming (?) black, ellipsoid, 0.8–1 cm. long, 8.5 mm. wide, with (1–)2–3 pyrenes, sparsely pilose with seta-like hairs.
