Characteristics

Shrubs. Branchlets yellowish to dark brown, thick, pilose, when young silky downy. Stipules on shoots obliquely ovate, deciduous; petiole 1-1.5 cm, densely pubescent; leaf blade oblong to obovate-oblong, 3-7 cm, abaxially glabrous or pubescent, adaxially white downy when young, glabrescent, base subrounded, margin entire, apex acute to obtuse; lateral veins 9-13 on each side of midvein. Male catkin unknown. Female catkin 3.5-5.5 cm, laxly flowered; bracts brown at apex, elliptic to obovate, 1-2 mm, densely villous. Female flower: gland adaxial; ovary ovoid-conical, glabrous; stipe shorter than bracts; style short; stigma 4-lobed.
