Characteristics

Tree to 25 m high, spreading; bark deeply and coarsely furrowed; twigs diverging at almost 90°, brittle at base. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, usually curved slightly to one side, long-acuminate, 7–12 cm long, 1.5–3.0 cm wide, widest at or below middle; base rounded to cuneate; apex margins coarsely dentate, the teeth curved forward; both surfaces quite glabrous in fully expanded leaves, the upper glossy green, the lower whitish glaucous; petiole to 15 mm long; stipules ovate-auriculate, acute, prominently dentate, 3–6 mm long. Floral bracts elliptic to oblong-linear. Fruits shortly but distinctly stalked, conical, tapering smoothly at apex into a short style.
