Characteristics

Perennial herb with one or more erect stems from a woody rootstock, 0.3-0.75 m tall; stems densely white-lanate below with some glandular hairs above. Leaves often crowded and larger near the base of the plant, petiolate; blade simple, broadly ovate to oblong-ovate, 55-130 x 30-70 mm, rugose and subglabrous above, densely white-lanate beneath, apex obtuse to rounded, base truncate to cordate, margin crenate to erose-dentate, occasionally obscurely lobed. Inflorescence of 15 or more verticils, spaced below, denser above; verticils usually 6-flowered. Calyx villous and gland-dotted, 12-15 mm long. Corolla white or pale mauve to blue, 18-25 mm long; tube 8-15 mm long; upper lip falcate, 8-10 mm long; lower lip slightly shorter than the upper.
