Characteristics

Herb, annual, glabrous below, long-glandular above. Stems erect, divaricately branched, to 45 cm tall. Leaves: basal leaves petiolate, ± spathulate; petiole to 1 cm long; cauline leaves sessile, elliptic-obovate to ovate, 10–30 mm long, 2–6 mm wide, 1-veined. Inflorescence lax, spreading; bracts herbaceous. Pedicels 3–16 mm long, often deflexed in fruit. Calyx narrowly cylindrical-oblong, 6–12 mm long, glandular-hispid; calyx lobes short, obtuse. Petal limb 3–5 mm long, mauve, entire. Styles 2. Capsule ovoid, shorter than calyx. Seeds reniform, black, bluntly tuberculate, with a lateral hilum.
