Characteristics

Woody herb to shrub to 0.5 m high, branches 1.5-5.0 mm diam., very densely pubescent, even woolly. Leaves alternate, evenly spaced on young branches with few on main axis, sometimes sessile, sometimes with midrib lacking lamina at base, lamina ovate to obovate, pinnatisectly dissected, leaf length 7-18 mm, upper and lower leaf laminas glandular but dense pubescence often obscures glands, hairs c. 1 mm long, densest on venation and at margins, margins often thickened and inrolled, dissected into 3-7 lobes, lobes oblong, entire; lobe length (based on length of lobe midrib) 4-9 mm, lobes only once divided; lobe width consistently 0.8-1 mm irrespective of lobe length, lobe venation usually obscured, occasionally midrib of lobes clearly visible. Capitula solitary, pedicellate, pedicel length 100-200 mm, densely brown pubescent, bracts subtending capitulum sometimes present, bracts 5-7 mm long, abaxially and adaxially pubescent. Capitula discoid, homogamous; involucre very broad and shallowly campanulate, 13-17 mm in diam.; phyllaries c. 45, multiseriate, subequal, variable in shape and size, length 4-5 mm, width 0.5-1 mm, often with a hyaline apex, phyllaries abaxially pubescent with dense spreading hairs that dry pale. Receptacle broadly domed and hollow, 5-6 mm diam., c. 2.5 mm deep. Florets hermaphrodite, c. 400, corollas yellow, lobes 0.4-0.6 mm long, apex rounded due to a thick layer of pappillae and slightly hooded, tube 1.3-2.3 mm long, 0.5-0.6 mm diam.; distinction between tube and throat sometimes conspicuous; anthers drying white, 1-1.5 mm long, apical anther appendages acute or rounded; basal anther appendages very short and triangular, anther collars inconspicuous and not pigmented. Achenes 2-2.5 mm long, 0.8-1.2 mm wide sparsely glandular, setulae absent or rarely sparse; pappus absent.
