Characteristics

Shrubs with slender branchlets. Stipules acicular. Leaves short-petioled, nerves ascending at an angle of c. 80°. Inflorescences terminal, many-flowered, compound racemes; branches much shortened, with flowers of successive age; bracts small, those of one branch conferted. Flowers ☿. Sepals 5. Petals 5, white or pinkish, purplish at base, in anthesis soon surpassing the sepals in size. Staminodes ∞, of 2 types, the inner ones mutually and with the stamens connate at base. Ovary 3-carpelled; stigma 1. Style of ripe fruits also splitting into 3 parts. Seeds not winged.
