Much branched shrub to 2(-3) m tall, erect or somewhat straggling; young branches finely puberulous. Leaves slightly anisophyllous, leathery, bright green and glossy, finely puberulous along midrib on both sides (rarely glabrous or uniformly pubescent); petiole 0-3 mm long; lamina elliptic, largest 1.8-3 x 0.8-1.5 cm; margin with 1-4(-6) triangular mucronate teeth per side or some entire; apex acute to acuminate, with a pungent mucro; base cuneate. Raceme up to 6 cm long; peduncle 1-4 mm long, densely puberulous; rachis densely puberulous and with long-stalked capitate glands. Bracts and bracteoles 15-25 mm long, chartaceous, greenish to brownish or tinged purplish, pubescent with long-stalked capitate glands, ovate to elliptic or obovate, apex acute to acuminate with a pungent mucro, sometimes also with a single large mucronate tooth per side; pedicels 1-2 mm long, densely pubescent with long-stalked capitate glands. Sepals with indumentum and colour as bracts and bracteoles, straw-coloured at base, with pungent mucro, dorsal oblong to slightly spathulate, 25-34(-37) mm long, acute or with 2 apical teeth up to 6 mm long, ventral and lateral lanceolate, ventral 23-29(-34) mm long, lateral 23-27(-30) mm long. Corolla limb white to cream or very pale mauve in throat; tube c. 1 cm long, sericeous dorsally, band of hairs immediately below insertion of stamens; limb 17-25 mm long; lobes 6-8 mm long. Filaments 8-12 mm long, two dorsal pilose along their whole length, two ventral hairy near base and glabrous apically; anthers 4-5 mm long, not bearded but with long curly hairs on lateral sides and dorsally and also with basal tufts. Capsule 18-22 mm long; seed 5-6 mm long, with indistinct scales.

They are 1-2 cm long by 1 cm wide. There are deep teeth around the edge with a sharp spine on the end of each. The leaves are dark green above and more pale underneath. The leaves are stiffly leathery. The flowers are 3 cm long and white to cream. The petals have lines of dense silvery hairs. There are 2-4 flowers in a group. The fruit are oblong pointed capsules.
