Characteristics

Rounded perennial to 20 cm high. Branches velvety to cottony. Leaves linear to very narrowly oblong, c. 10 mm long, sparsely oppressed pilose. Flowers solitary. Perianth sparsely pilose. Stamens 5. Fruiting perianth ascending, very sparsely pubescent; tube shortly oblong, dorsiventrally compressed c. 1 mm high, slightly constricted around the base, 1.5 mm wide, concave on adaxial face, expanded below into a hollow oblong to circular base 2–3 mm long; limb ridge-like, incurved; spines 2, lateral, 1.5–5 mm long (or one reduced to a small knob), divergent; radicular tubercle adjacent to one of the spines and decurrent as a prominent rib. Seed and radicle vertical.
