Intricately branched dwarf shrub to 40 cm high, glabrous except woolly pilose leaf axils. Leaves clavate and c. 5 mm long to slender and semiterete to 10–15 mm long, acute. Flowers solitary. Perianth glabrous except woolly ciliate tepals. Stamens 5. Fruiting perianth hard, erect and oppressed to branch, persistent; attachment very oblique; tube semicylindrical, dorsiventrally compressed, c. 3 mm high; limb erect, woolly-ciliate; spines 3+2, spreading to recurved, slender, 5–15 mm long, the inner of the radicular pair shorter. Seed and radicle erect.
