Leaves sessile, tightly clustered, obovate, 4–5 mm. long, 2–2.5 mm. broad, apex obtuse, upper surface concave, lower convex, succulent, margin entire, blue-green or red; lower leaves opposite, upper alternate.. Inflorescence a few-flowered cyme, usually barely extending beyond the leaves; pedicels 2–2.5 mm. long.. Flowers 5-merous or sometimes with 4-merous flowers on the same plant.. Calyx-tube subcampanulate, 2.2–2.5 mm. long; lobes shallowly triangular to semiorbicular, 0.6–0.7 mm. long, 1.6 mm. broad, obtuse.. Petals free, attached to the rim of the calyx-tube, broadly obovate, 2 mm. long, 1.5–1.8 mm. broad, obtuse, white, pink or purplish, persistent.. Stamens 8 or 10 (or possibly 5 fide Hedberg (1957)); outer stamens opposite the sepals, filaments slender, 1.2 mm. long, base dilated; inner stamens adnate to the petals for 0.1 mm. free for 1.2 mm.; anthers orbicular, ± 0.6 mm. long..
