Characteristics

Stems slender, wiry, wide-creeping, rooting throughout their length, with ascending scrubby branches 10–20 cm tall. Median leaves broadly lanceolate, 1.1–1.5 mm long; base asymmetrical; margins denticulate; apex attenuate. Lateral leaves ovate-oblong, 1.4–2 mm long, 0.5–0.6 mm wide, those on the branches contiguous; base rounded, broadly so on the acroscopic side; margins entire except for long, spinose cilia towards the base on the acroscopic side; apex acute. Strobili c. 1 cm long, terminal; sporophylls broadly ovate, strongly keeled, with denticulate margins and an attenuate, acute apex; megasporophylls 2.6–2.9 mm long, 2.75 mm wide, 1 or 2 only, at base of strobilus; microsporophylls c. 1.75 mm long, numerous, comprising most of the strobilus. Megaspores 350–500 µm diam., verruculose and with a reticulum of low ridges. Microspores 27–40 µm diam., rugose.
