Characteristics

Dwarf woody shrublet c. 250-850 mm tall, virgately well branched, old stems nude, stoutest seen c. 5 mm in diam., puberulous, hairs c. 0.1-0.15 mm long, ± patent, arranged in longitudinal bands, young branchlets closely leafy. Leaves opposite soon alternate upwards, not fascicled, spreading at angle of 45° or more, largest ones 4.2-8.3 x 1.25-2 mm, almost terete, apex obtuse, base abruptly contracted, decurrent, glandular-punctate, sometimes varnished, surface minutely pustulate (raised stomata?). Inflorescence a crowded raceme c. 10-20 x 10-15 mm in flower, elongating to 20-30 mm in fruit but still crowded, each solitary at tip of leafy branchlet. Bract adnate to pedicel, lowermost 5.6-7.5 x 0.8-1.1 mm, linear-lanceolate, acute, hairs up to (0.25-)0.5-0.8 mm on lower margins, few c. 0.25-0.3 mm long on lower back, minute globular glands on both surfaces. Pedicel c. 0.4-0.5 mm long, often strongly incurved. Calyx 3.4-4 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed less than halfway to base, hairs up to c. 0.8-1 mm long on margins and all over outside together with glandular hairs c. 0.1 mm long, inside glabrous. Corolla tube 6.6-9.5 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb c. 6.2-7 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 2.4-3.1 x 1.4-1.6 mm, anticous lobe 3.2-4 x 1.2-1.7 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white fading to yellowish. Stamens: posticous filaments 0.8-1.4 mm long, anthers in throat or mouth, anticous filaments 1.5-2.2 mm long, anthers shortly exerted. Stigma and style c. 7.2-10 mm long, style with delicate acute hairs and a few minute glandular ones. Ovary c. 1 x 0.6 mm. Cocci c. 3.5 x 1.2 mm, red-brown, smooth, inner face plane, pair of cocci held within persistent calyx.
