Characteristics

Perennial herb with an irregularly shaped somewhat stoloniferous woody caudex, stems several from apices of caudex and short stolons, 150-550 mm long, decumbent or erect, simple when young, eventually well branched from base, then bushy, pubescent with scattered to profuse patent acute hairs up to 0.4-0.8 mm long, mostly with minute glandular hairs as well, closely leafy at least in upper part. Leaves opposite soon alternate upwards, fascicled, primary leaves 5-16 x 1.5-7.8 mm (axillary and uppermost leaves smaller), oblong, narrowly to broadly elliptic, or lanceolate, apex acute to obtuse, base slightly narrowed, margins entire or with up to 3 pairs of very small teeth, only midvein visible, both surfaces glandular-punctate, hairy, hairs acute, c. 0.15-0.4 mm long, sometimes minutely glandular as well. Inflorescence oi short (c. 10-30 flowers) racemes, compact even in fruit though lowermost flowers often distant, each raceme terminating a short leafy (or occasionally nude towards apex) twiglet, the whole eventually forming a loose panicle. Bract adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, rarely in a few lowermost flowers to pedicel only, lowermost ± elliptic, 2.5-5 x 1-1.6 mm, usually minutely glandular all over back, acute hairs as well c. 0.1-0.3 mm long, both glandular and acute hairs sometimes sparse or wanting. Pedicel (lowermost) 0.3-1 mm long. Calyx 2-3 mm long, subequally 5-toothed, deeply split on anticous side, minutely glandular, acute hairs c. 0.2-0.3 mm long as well on margins and keel, or hairs sparse. Corolla tube 4.5-7 mm long, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb c. 4-5.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.3-2.6 x 1-1.7 mm, anticous lobe 1.7-2.6 x 1-1.8 mm, all lobes elliptic, white to pale violet, tube often flushed purplish, very minutely glandular outside. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.2-1.8 mm long, anthers in mouth; anticous filaments 1.8-2.2 mm long, anthers shortly excreted. Stigma and style c. 3.5-7.5 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary 0.6-0.8 x 0.3-0.4 mm. Cocci 2-2.5 x 0.8-1 mm, ± oblong, somewhat rugulose in lower part, light brown.
