Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems c. 350-450 mm long, several tufted from a stout woody stock, decumbent or ascending, simple or branched, branches rodlike, each terminating in an inflorescence, minutely puberulous, hairs less than 0.1 mm long, retrorse, closely leafy. Leaves fascicled, alternate, largest primary leaves 7-15 x 1.8-2.4 mm, elliptic, apex acute, base somewhat narrowed, margins thickened, entire or with an occasional minute callose tooth, midrib channelled above, not raised below, glandular-punctate. Inflorescence a. large very narrow terminal panicle, lateral branchlets many, tending to lie on one side of axis, bracteate, mostly very shortly branched to bear many congested, few-flowered racemes c. 5 x 5 mm. Bract adnate to minute pedicel and about half calyx tube, lowermost 1.8-2.3 x 1-1.25 mm, broadly elliptic, obtuse, deeply concave, hairs up to 0.15-0.2 mm long on margins, otherwise glabrous or very few hairs on keel. Pedicels up to c. 0.25 mm long. Calyx 1.2-1.7 mm long, somewhat obliquely campanulate, lobed less than halfway, 2 anticous lobes larger than other three, pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.2 mm long. Corolla tube 3.3-4 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 3.5-5.2 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-1.5 x 0.8-1.1 mm, anticous lobe 1.4-2.7 x 1-1.4 mm long, all lobes elliptic, mauve. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.2-1.8 mm long, anticous filaments 1.7-2.8 mm, all anthers exerted. Stigma and style c. 3.8-5.5 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary 0.6-0.7 x 0.4-0.6 mm. Cocci not seen.
