Characteristics

Dense rounded shrublet c. 400 mm-1.5 m tall, stems well-branched, young parts densely pubescent, hairs c. 0.1 mm long, ± stellate or dendroid, closely leafy. Leaves alternate, fascicled, primary and axillary leaves similar, largest ones c. 3.5-10 x 1.2-2.2 mm, elliptic, oblanceolate or narrowly spathulate, apex obtuse, base narrowed to a distinct petiolar part, thick-textured, margins entire, thickened, both surfaces velvety pubescent, hairs c. 0.1 mm long, some ± stellate. Inflorescence composed of few-flowered glomerules (spikes) c. 4-9 x 7 mm arranged in narrow loose panicles c. 45-90 mm long, lower glomerules on leafy peduncles up to c. 7 mm long, upper sessile, lowermost peduncles sometimes bearing a few subsidiary glomerules. Brad adnate to about half calyx tube, c. 2 x 0.8 mm, oblong, obtuse, thick, not concave, inner face plane, outer convex, velvety pubescent outside, hairs c. 0.1-0.2 mm long, many ± dendroid. Pedicels wanting. Calyx c. 1.8-2.2 mm long, campanulate, 5-lobed less than halfway, 2 anticous lobes slightly larger than other three, all deltoid, subacute, velvety outside, hairs c. 0.1-0.2 mm long, some dendroid, ± retrorse. Corolla tube c. 3-3.4 mm long, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb c. 4 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes c. l.2 x 0.8 mm, anticous lobe c. 2 x 1.2 mm, all lobes oblong or elliptic-oblong, mauve. Stamens: posticous filaments c. 1.7-2 mm long, anticous filaments c. 2.1-2.5 mm, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 3-4 mm long, style pubescent, some hairs stellate. Ovary c. 0.6 x 0.4 mm. Cocci: only one immature one seen, 1.5 x 0.8 mm, smooth, red-brown.
