Characteristics

Woody, dwarf shrub, ± 450 mm high; base unknown, much branched. Leaves: main ones up to 15(-20) x 2 mm, linear, narrow-oblong or-oblanceolate; glandular-punctate, at least margins finely scabridulous. Flowers many in single or sometimes loosely-panicled, terminal spikes, long even when young, up to 110 x 7 mm in fruit, mostly remaining ± dense. Bracts lanceolate, acute, margins long-haired. Calyx mostly unequally 5-lobed, sometimes irregularly 3 or 4(6 or 7)-lobed, anticous lobes wider than others. Corolla violet or mauve shades, sometimes white. Flowering time mainly Jan.-May.
