Characteristics

Subshrub c. 1-1.5 m tall, well branched from base, stems up to c. 8 mm in diam., pubescent, hairs up to 0.6-1 mm long, retrorse, many minute globose glands as well, closely leafy throughout. Leaves alternate, fascicled, primary leaves 4-12 x 1.2-3 ran (secondary leaves smaller), elliptic, apex acute or subacute, margins entire or with 1-3 pairs of very small teeth in upper half, glandular-punctate, glabrous to pubescent all over (as in the type), hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long. Inflorescence a big panicle, main branches, c. 80-170 mm long in fruit, lower part closely leafy, upper half floriferous, the side branches up to c. 200 mm long in fruit. Bract adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, lowermost 3.5-5 x 1-1.3 mm, elliptic, subacute, entire or occasionally with 2 or 3 tiny teeth, glandular-punctate, glabrous to pubescent all over, hairs up to 0.25-0.5 mm long. Pedicel (lowermost) 0.3-1 mm long. Calyx 1.5-2 mm long on anticous side, 5, almost equal, lobes as long as or shorter than tube, deltoid, subacute to acute, thick-textured, strongly keeled, gland-dotted, hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long either confined to margins or scattered all over outside. Corolla tube 5.5-7.2 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 5-7 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.7-2 x 1-1.5 mm, anticous lobe 3-4 x 1.6-2.1 mm, all lobes elliptic to suborbicular, pale to deep mauve or occasionally white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.5-2 mm long, anthers in mouth; anticous filaments 2-3 mm long, anthers shortly exerted. Stigma and style 5.8-9.5 mm long, style sparsely and very minutely glandular-puberulous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.3 mm. Cocci c. 2.5 x 2 mm, brown, slightly rugulose, almost round (much elongated when galled), the pair not separating, or doing so tardily.
