Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Selago

Characteristics

Dwarf woody shrublet, height unknown, branches spreading, pubescent, hairs up to 0.2 mm long, retrorse, leafy. Leaves opposite, alternate or not upwards, fascicled, largest primary leaves 4-5.5 x 1.5-2.2 mm (but only those on flowering branches seen), ovate or broadly elliptic (possibly more narrowly elliptic lower down stem), apex subacute, base narrowed then expanded and half-clasping, margins entire, thickened, sometimes revolute, texture thick, venation obscure, midrib sometimes slightly raised on lower surface, glandular-punctate, hairs to 0.15-0.2 mm long on and near lower margins, degenerating upwards into papillae; axillary leaves similar but smaller. Inflorescence composed of congested spikes (glomerules) c. 10-15 x 10 mm in flower, no fruiting ones seen, each terminating a leafy branchlet up to c. 60 mm long, the whole forming a large panicle, the lowermost branchlets compounded. Bract adnate to calyx tube, lowermost 3.2-4.2 x 2-2.4 mm, ovate, subacute, hairs up to 0.15-0.2 mm long on lower margins degenerating upwards into papillae, back glabrous except for sunken glands. Pedicels 0-0.1 mm long. Calyx 2.2-2.8 mm long, obliquely campanulate, mostly 3-lobed, the two anticolateral lobes broadly deltoid, at least as long as tube, sometimes one or both bifid, or occasionally calyx perfectly 5-lobed, hairs up to 0.2 mm long on margins, globular glands only scattered over outer surface. Corolla tube 3-4 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 4-4.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-1.3 x 1-1.1 mm, anticous lobe 2-2.5 x 1.2-1.8 mm, all lobes elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.7-2 mm long, anticous filaments 2.1-2.5 mm, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 2.5-3.2 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.6 mm. Cocci not seen.
