Characteristics

Shrublet c. 300 mm to 1.2 m tall, branches virgate, becoming stout, up to c. 5 mm in diam., pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, usually more or less recurved, closely leafy. Leaves fascicled, opposite, usually but not always alternate upwards, largest primary leaves 2-8 x 0.8-2 mm (axillary leaves often, but not always, longer, largest 5-22 x 1-2 mm), narrowly deltoid to linear-oblong, base broad (axillary linear-oblong, base slightly narrowed), apex acute or subacute, shortly apiculate, margins entire, weakly to strongly revolute, texture thick, surface glossy, glandular-punctate (but not easily seen), usually glabrous, sometimes minute coarse hairs scattered along margins. Inflorescence terminal, composed of few-flowered crowded spikes compounded into a compact corymbose or more elongated narrow, round-topped panicle up to c. 80 x 40 mm. Bract adnate only to extreme base of calyx tube and minute pedicel if present, lowermost 2.3-2.8 x 1-1.25 mm, lanceolate, acute, concave, backs smooth, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long confined to margins. Pedicel either wanting or up to c. 0.2 mm long. Calyx 2.9-3.2 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed at least halfway to the base, lobes narrowly triangular, acute, strongly keeled, acute hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long on margins, tube either glabrous or a few acute hairs c. 0.1-0.2 mm long on keels, very minute glandular hairs as well mainly on anticous side. Corolla tube 3.5-4.8 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 5-5.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.3-2.2 x 1.1-1.4 mm, anticous lobe 2-2.8 x 1.3-1.7 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.7-2.4 mm long, anticous filaments 2.2-3.4 mm long, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 4-6.3 mm long, style pubescent. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.4 mm. Cocci 2.2-2.5 x 1.3-1.7 mm, brown, rugulose, inner face deeply concave, fertile part about one third total area. Flowers can possibly be found in any month, but most records are between July and November.
