Selago immersa Rolfe

Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Selago

Characteristics

Woody perennial herb, stoloniferous, stolons purple when young, stems several, forming bushy clumps, c. 300-600 mm long, up to 6 mm in diam., erect to sprawling, simple below and there often bare, branching above into the inflorescence, there closely leafy, pubescent, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long, usually curved, retrorse. Leaves alternate, fascicled, primary leaves 4-10 x 1.4-4 mm, narrowly to broadly obovate or obtrullate in outline (secondary leaves much smaller, often narrowly elliptic, entire), base narrowed to a broad petiolar part, apex very acute, apiculate, margins with 1-4 pairs of sharply acute teeth in upper part, glandular-punctate, otherwise glabrous or few to many bristles 0.2-0.5 mm long on margins and midline on lower surface. Inflorescence a big leafy panicle, side branches up to c. 150 mm long, flowers eventually distant. Bract adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, part free from pedicel up to c. 2.5-3.7 x (1.1-)1.7-2.2 mm, the lower bracts usually leaflike, toothed, rarely elliptic, entire, thick-textured, glabrous or a few bristles on margins. Pedicel (lowermost) 1-3.5 mm long. Calyx 1-1.8 mm long on anticous side, lobes 5, almost equal, roughly as long as tube, deltoid, subacute, thick-textured, strongly keeled, either glabrous or hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long on margins. Corolla tube 4-5 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 4.5-6 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.7-2 x 1.2-1.8 mm, anticous lobe 2-3 x 1.5-2 mm, all lobes suborbicular or elliptic, pure white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.5 mm long, anthers included, anticous filaments 1.4-2.5 mm long, anthers shortly exerted. Stigma and style 4-6 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.3 mm, nectariferous gland very small. Cocci c. 2 x 0.8 mm, light brown, slightly rugulose, the pair probably separating only tardily.
