Characteristics

Dwarf woody shrublet up to c. 1 m tall, virgately very well branched, old stems nude, young branches puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, patent, minute globular glands as well, sometimes varnished, leafy. leaves often ternate, ± alternate upwards, not fascicled, ascending to spreading or somewhat recurved, largest ones 2-7 x 0.7-1.2 mm, lanceolate, apex acute, shortly apiculate, base slightly narrowed, decurrent, margins entire, thickened, texture moderately thick, venation either invisible or midrib raised near base on lower surface, glandular-punctuate, otherwise glabrous except for spreading hairs on decurrent base, sometimes varnished. Inflorescence a. crowded spike c. 15-30 x 10 mm in flower, scarcely elongating in fruit, solitary at tips of innumerable leafy branchlets. Bract adnate only to minute pedicel, lowermost 3-5 x 0.9-1.3 mm, leaflike, lanceolate, acute, glandular-punctate hairs up to 0.15-0.25 mm long on lower margins or sometimes wanting there, minute globular glands always present, also on both faces near base. Pedicel up to c. 0.1 mm long. Calyx 2-2.7 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed roughly halfway to base, lobes strongly keeled, hairs up to 0.2-0.5 mm long on margins, slightly shorter all over backs together with minute glands, globular glands inside calyx. Corolla tube 2.3-3.8 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 3.5-4.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.2-1.8 x 0.8-1.2 mm, anticous lobe 1.6-2 x 1-1.2 mm, all lobes elliptic or oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.5-2.4 mm long, anticous filaments 1.7-2.5 mm, all anthers far exerted. Stigma and style c. 2.5-4 mm long, style puberulous, hairs acute and/or gland-tipped. Ovary c. 0.7 x 0.4 mm, few minute acute and/or glandular hairs at apex. Cocci 1.5-2 x 1-1.1 mm, red-brown, smooth, glabrous or a few tiny hairs at apex, inner face plane, both cocci held within persistent calyx.
