Characteristics

Probably annual, roots fibrous, stem 0.5-1 m tall, c. 0.3-0.4 mm in diam., loosely branched near base, all stems erect, simple below, branching above into the compound inflorescence, villous, hairs acute, patent, up to 0.8-1.2 mm long, minute sessile glands as well, closely leafy. leaves opposite, alternate upwards, fascicled, primary leaves 4-15(-30) x 0.5-2(-10) mm, narrowly oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic in outline, apex acute, callose-tipped, base tapering into a petiolar part, margins with 1-6 pairs of coarse teeth in upper part, smaller leaves sometimes entire, triplinerved but only midvein clearly visible, glandular-punctate, stout glandular hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long on margins and midline on lower surface, there occasional long acute hairs as well. Inflorescences terminal raceme up to 150 mm long in fruit, flowers moderately crowded, racemes loosely panicled, branches sharply ascending. Bract adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, lowermost c. 6.2-9 x 0.8-1 mm, linear-lanceolate, strongly conduplicate, hairs up to 0.8-1 mm long on margins and keel. Pedicel (lowermost) 1-2 mm long. Calyx 3-4 mm long on anticous side, very unequally 3-lobed, each pair of anticous/lateral lobes fused into a single broad ± oblong, strongly keeled unit, often minutely bifid at apex, posticous lobe triangular-acute, about half length of other lobes, delicate hairs up to 0.8-1.2 mm long on margins and keels, scattered minute glands as well. Corolla tube 8.5-10 mm long, cylindric, bent and abruptly inflated towards apex, mouth probably laterally compressed, limb 5-9 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 2-3.8 x 1.4-2.4 mm, anticous lobe 2.8-4.5 x 1.2-2.4 mm, all lobes broadly elliptic, shades of light violet, delicate hairs up to 0.6-0.8 mm long on outside of corolla. Stamens all deeply included in swollen part of tube, filaments c. 1-2 mm long, posticous ones not decurrent. Stigma and style c. 4-7 mm long, included, style glabrous. Ovary c. 1.2 x 0.8 mm. Cocci 3 x 1 mm, not separating, light brown, smooth.
