Characteristics

Shrublet, very well branched and twiggy, branchlets spreading, branches c. 150-400 mm long, decumbent to erect, young parts very minutely glandular, acute hairs as well up to 0.1 mm long and these recurved, leafy. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, not or scarcely fascicled, uncrowded, widely spreading, largest leaves 6-13 x 0.8-1.5 mm, linear-oblong, apex subacute, base slightly narrowed, margins entire, thickened, revolute, texture thick (may be broadly elliptic in T. S. owing to union of revolute margins), midrib just visible or not on lower surface, glandular-punctate, very minutely glandular as well on both surfaces (most easily seen on very young leaves), broad-based hairs up to 0.1 mm long present or not on margins. Inflorescences crowded terminal spike c. 7-10 x 7-12 in flower, elongating to c. 15-20 mm in fruit, usually solitary at tips of branchlets, occasionally with a pair of subsidiary spikes below the primary one. Bract adnate to whole of calyx tube, lowermost 3.5-6.7 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong-lanceolate, thick-textured, inner face plane, both faces densely glandular-puberulous, hairs less than 0.1 mm, sometimes a few acute hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long on margins. Pedicels wanting. Calyx 2.5-3 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5 lobed more than halfway to base, lobes narrowly triangular, very acute, densely glandular-puberulous all over outer surface, few to many acute hairs to c. 0.1 mm on keels, 0.1-0.2 mm long on margins. Corolla tube 4.5-8 mm long, (shorter when flowers 2), narrowly funnel-shaped, limb 3.5-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.2-2 x 1-1.3 mm, anticous lobe 1.4-2.5 x 1-1.3 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white: backs of lobes and outside of corolla tube minutely puberulous, many hairs glandular. Stamens: posticous filaments c. 1 mm long, anthers in mouth; anticous filaments c. 1.7-2 mm long, ambers shortly exerted. Stigma and style c. 5-8 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.4 mm. Cocci 1.8-2.4 x 1-1.4 mm, yellow-or red-brown, smooth.
