Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Selago

Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems few from a woody taproot, 300 mm to lm tall, c. 2-4 mm in diam., erect, simple or very sparingly branched at base, branching above into the compound inflorescence, pubescent, hairs up to 0.15-0.8 mm long, weakly to strongly recurved or very rarely patent, closely leafy. Leaves opposite, alternate upwards, fascicled, largest primary leaves 7-20(-35) x 1.8-3.5(-10) mm, mostly linear-oblong to oblong-elliptic, sometimes elliptic or oblanceolate, apex acute or subacute, callose-tipped, base slightly narrowed (conspicuously so in large broad leaves), margins thickened, mostly entire, larger leaves with up to 4 pairs teeth, upper surface and margins scabrid-pubescent with upward-pointing hairs 0.1-0.5 mm long, hairs confined to midrib on lower surface, glandular-punctate. Inflorescence a loose corymbose panicle composed of short racemes, ± globose or oblong, c. 5-8 mm in diam., occasionally remaining compact in fruit, often elongating to c. 30-50 mm, lowermost few flowers often distant. Bract mostly adnate to pedicel and base of calyx tube, rarely lowermost in a raceme adnate only to pedicel or free from it, lowermost 3-5 x 0.8-lmm (including petiolar part), blade elliptic, acute, deeply concave, ± embracing calyx, strongly keeled, margins broad, membranous, pale, fringed with hairs c. 0.1 mm long, few to many scabrid hairs on keel. Pedicel (lowermost) 1-2 mm long. Calyx 1.8-3.7 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed, lobes c. 0.8-1.5 mm long, at least the anticous pair ± acute, hairs to 0.1 mm long on margins, sometimes keels as well, minutely gland-dotted on anticous side. Corolla tube 1.7-2 mm long, broadly funnel-shaped, limb 4-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-1.6 x 0.8-1.2 mm, anticous lobe 2-2.4 x 1-1.3 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.1-1.5 mm long, anthers shortly exerted; anticous filaments 1.7-2.2 mm, anthers well exerted. Stigma and style 2-3 mm long, style minutely puberulous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.4 mm. Cocci 2.5-2.8 x 0.8-1.1 mm, ± oblong, slightly rugulose, brown.
