Dwarf woody shrublet c. 150-600 mm tall, ± virgately branched, often rather loosely so, old stems bare, woody, up to c. 8 mm in diam., young parts minutely puberulous, hairs less than 0.1 mm long, ± patent, often varnished by oozing invisible glands, closely leafy. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, not fascicled, largest 2-5 x 0.5-1 mm, sharply ascending to spreading, linear-oblong, apex obtuse, base scarcely narrowed, decurrent, margins entire, plane, texture thick (blade broadly elliptic in T.S.), venation invisible except at base, there midrib raised on lower surface, glandular-punctate, often varnished, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescence a terminal many-flowered crowded spike c. 10-40 x 8-10 mm in flower and fruit, either solitary or with a few subsidiary spikes developing below and eventually overtopping it (old bare subspinescent inflorescence axes often present, well overtopped by later growth). Bract adnate to base of calyx tube and minute pedicel, lowermost 2.5-4.1 x 0.8-1 mm, lanceolate, subobtuse, glandular-punctate, hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long on lower margins, back either glabrous or with a few hairs 0.15-0.2 mm long at base. Pedicel 0-0.2 mm long. Calyx 1.7-2.3 mm long, campanulate, 5-lobed roughly halfway to base, two anticous lobes slightly broader than other three, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long on margins, densely pubescent outside, hairs c. 0.2-0.3 mm long, reflexed, minute globular glands as well, inside glabrous. Corolla tube 2.7-4(-5) mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 3.5-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.2-2 x 0.7-0.9 mm, anticous lobe 1.8-3 x 0.9-1.1 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white fading to cream. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.2-1.8 mm long, anticous filaments 1.5-2.5 mm, all anthers well exserted. Stigma and style c. 3.5-5 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary c. 0.5 x 0.3 mm, glabrous. Cocci c. 1.8 x 1.1 mm, red-brown, smooth, inner face plane, the pair of cocci held within the persistent calyx.
