Characteristics

Dwarf woody shrublet c. 200-750 mm tall, virgately well branched, old stems nude, stoutest seen c. 5 mm in diam., puberulous, hairs 0.1-0.15 mm long, recurved, nearly confined to longitudinal bands, young branchlets closely leafy. Leaves ± opposite but quickly alternate upwards, not fascicled, sharply ascending to somewhat recurved, largest ones 4-8 x 1.1-1.4 mm, almost terete, ± clavate, apex conspicuously mucronate, mucro recurved, base narrowed, almost petiolate, decurrent, midrib sometimes raised on lower surface in dried state, particularly at base, glandular-punctate, sometimes varnished, often covered in minute pustules (raised stomata?). Inflorescences crowded raceme c. 10-20 x 10 mm, each solitary at tip of leafy branchlet. Bract adnate to pedicel, lowermost 5-7 x 1.1-1.8 mm, lanceolate, very acute to acuminate, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long on lower margins, sometimes a few on lower back, minutely glandular on both surfaces. Pedicel 0.2-0.5 mm long, strongly incurved. Calyx 2.3-3 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed less than halfway to base, hairs up to 0.25-0.3 mm long on margins and all over outside together with minute globular glands, inside glabrous. Corolla tube 3.2-5 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 5-6 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.8-2.3 x 1.1-1.3 mm, anticous lobe 2.5-2.8 x 1.1-1.5 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.8-2.8 mm long, anticous filaments 2-3 mm, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 4-5 mm long, style glabrous or with a few very minute glands. Ovary c. 1 x 0.4 mm. Cocci 2-2.5 x 1.3-1.6 mm, red-brown, smooth, inner face plane, pair of cocci held within persistent calyx.
