Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Selago

Characteristics

Shrublet up to c. l m tall, branches virgate, becoming stout, up to c. 5-6 mm in diam., upper branches bearing the terminal inflorescences all sharply ascending and crowded together, pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, ± patent, very closely leafy. Leaves fascicled, alternate, largest primary leaves 2-3.5 x 0.7-1 mm (axillary leaves 2-4 x 0.4-0.8 mm), narrowly deltoid (axillary linear-oblong or oblong-elliptic), apex acute, apiculate, base broad, margins entire, thickened but scarcely revolute in primary leaves, revolute in axillary leaves (these sometimes almost deltoid in transverse section), thick-textured, glandular-punctate otherwise glabrous except for a few minute hairs on margins at base of primary leaves. Inflorescence terminal, composed of few-flowered crowded spikes arranged in a crowded pyramidal panicle 20-80 x 12-40 mm. Bract adnate only to extreme base of calyx tube, lowermost 1.8-3 x 0.8-1 mm, lanceolate, acute, concave, thick-textured, venation raised on back, glabrous except for fringe of hairs 0.15-0.2 mm long on lower margins. Pedicel wan ting or extremely short. Calyx 1.5-2.1 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed at least halfway to base, lobes narrowly triangular, acute, strongly keeled, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long on margins and all over outside, densely and very minutely glandular-puberulous as well. Corolla tube 1.8-2.7 mm long, funnel-shaped, 3-4 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-1.3 x 0.8-1.1 mm, anticous lobe 1.5-2.2 x 1.2-1.3 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.1-1.7 mm long, anticous filaments 1.2-2.2 mm, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 2.8-3.5 mm long, style pubescent. Ovary c. 0.7 x 0.3 mm. Cocci not seen.
