Characteristics

Perennial herb or very dwarf shrublet, stems c. 60-90 mm long, tufted from apex of woody taproot, erect or decumbent, simple or loosely branched, clad in patent hairs c. 0.1-0.15 mm long, closely leafy. Leaves opposite and decussate, fascicled, largest primary ones 4-9(-13) x 1.4-3(-3.8) mm, elliptic or lanceolate, apex acute, apiculate, base narrowed then slightly expanded and half-clasping, margins entire, thickened, texture moderately thick, leathery, venation invisible, stout but short hairs (0.1-0.2 mm long) on and near margins, sometimes on midline of lower surface as well. Inflorescence a few-flowered crowded raceme c. 5-7 x 8-10 mm in flower, scarcely elongating in fruit, solitary or few in a ± corymbose panicle at apex of twiglets. Bract adnate to most of calyx tube, lowermost 3.5-4 x 1.1-1.6 mm, lanceolate, acute, stout hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long on margins, minute globular glands on inner face. Pedicels up to 0.2-0.3 mm long. Calyx 2.1-2.7 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed halfway to base, lobes narrowly triangular, acute, hairs up to 0.2 mm long on margins, very minutely glandular all over outside. Corolla tube 3-4 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb c. 5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.8-2 x 1.4-1.5 mm, anticous lobe 2.6-3 x 1.6-1.8 mm, all lobes broadly elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments c. 1.5 mm long, anticous filaments c. 2-2.2 mm, all anthers shortly exerted. Stigma and style c. 4-5 mm long, style densely puberulous. Ovary c. 1 x 0.6 mm. Cocci 2.1-2.3 x 1.3 mm, orange-brown, slightly rugulose, each coccus with 2 incipient spurious cells.
