Perennial herb, stems c. 250-400 mm long, several tufted from a thick woody stock, somewhat stoloniferous, prostrate or decumbent, well branched, each branch terminating in an inflorescence, puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm 'long, recurved, tendency towards wanting or very few in a broad band below insertion of each primary leaf, closely leafy. Leaves fascicled, opposite or becoming alternate upwards, longest primary leaves 10-22 x 1.7-3 mm, narrowly elliptic, apex ± acute, base narrowed, margins entire or rarely a few tiny callose teeth, thickened, midrib channelled above, not raised below, blade glandular-punctate. Inflorescence a short narrow panicle, lateral branchlets up to c. l5, tending to lie on one side of axis (because of stance of stems), simple or lower ones branched near apex, either nude or with 1 or 2 pairs of opposite bracts, individual racemes few-flowered, congested, c. 7-13 x 8-10 mm. Bract adnate to pedicel and roughly half calyx tube, lowermost 3.2-4.5 x 1-2 mm, broadly elliptic, subacute, concave, hairs up to 0.15-0.5 mm long on margins only. Pedicels up to 0.2-0.5 mm long. Calyx 2-2.6 mm long, campanulate, lobed less than halfway to base, 2 anticous lobes scarcely larger than the other 3, pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.2-0.4 mm long. Corolla tube 4.5-5.6 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 4-6 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-2 x 0.8-1.5 mm, anticous lobe 1.8-2.8 x 1.1-1.7 mm, all lobes elliptic, mauve. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.5 mm long, anthers shortly exerted; anticous filaments 1.2-3 mm long, anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 4-8 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary c. 06-0.8 x 0.5-0.7 mm. Cocci c. 1.8-2 x 1.2-1.3 mm, smooth, light brown.
