Characteristics

Compact dwarf shrublet, main stems 150-350 mm long, tufted from crown of stout woody taproot c. 10 mm in diam., thick, woody, bark grey, decumbent to erect, loosely well-branched, young parts puberulous, hairs up to c. 0.1 mm long, obtuse, very slightly retrorse, closely leafy. Leaves opposite, alternate upwards, fascicled, sometimes weakly so, largest primary leaves 10-23 x 2-5 mm, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, apex subacute to acute, base narrowed to a short petiolar part, margins entire, plane, texture thin, midrib incised above, slightly raised below, glandular-punctate, otherwise glabrous or with a few minute scattered stalked or sessile glands; axillary leaves similar but often smaller. Inflorescences short terminal panicle (or sometimes a solitary raceme), terminal raceme c. 15-30 x 15 mm, subsidiary racemes (glomerules) c. 10 x 10-15 mm on nude or leafy peduncles c. 5-25 mm long. Bract adnate to pedicel and at least lower third of calyx tube, lowermost c. 6.2-7 x 1.3-1.7 mm, oblong-elliptic to elliptic, plane, apex subacute, a few minute stalked and sessile glands scattered over backs, or glabrous. Pedicels c. 1 mm long. Calyx 2.5-3.2 mm long, campanulate, 5-lobed less than halfway to base, 2 anticous lobes slightly broader than other 3, all lobes oblong, obtuse or subacute, strongly keeled, very minute glands scattered all over outside. Corolla tube 4.5-5.5 mm long, broadly funnel-shaped, limb 6-8 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 2-3 x 1.2-1.6 mm, anticous lobe 3-4.5 x 1.6-2.3 mm, all lobes elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 2-5 mm long, anticous filaments 2.2-5.5 mm, all anthers far exerted. Stigma and style 5-9 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary c. 1 x 0.8 mm. Cocci: only one pair seen, not fully ripe, 2.5 x 1.3 mm, inner face plane.
