Characteristics

Dwarf woody shrublet c. 120-200 mm tall, stems tufted from a woody taproot, erect or decumbent and then rooting near base, very well branched, old parts bare, young parts pubescent, hairs c. 0.3 mm long, recurved, closely leafy. Leaves opposite, tardily alternate upwards, fascicled, largest primary leaves 2-4 x 1-1.2 mm, broadly elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, apex obtuse to subacute, base scarcely narrowed, margins entire, thickened, texture moderately thick, venation invisible, both surfaces densely pubescent, hairs c. 0.15-0.3 mm long, recurved. Inflorescence a small crowded few-flowered raceme c. 5 x 5 mm in first flower, elongating slightly in fruit, either solitary at tips of branchlets or subtended by a few, smaller, racemes. Bract adnate to at least half calyx tube, lowermost 2.7-3.2 x 1-1.2 mm, narrowly ovate, subacute, lower half concave, both surfaces densely pubescent, hairs up to c. 0.2 mm long, reflexed. Pedicels c. 0-0.2 mm long. Calyx 1.8-2 mm long, obliquely 3-lobed, anticolateral lobes deltoid, about as broad as long, occasionally bifid, hairs up to 0.4-0.5 mm long on margins, c. 0.2 mm long all over outside, recurved, few small globular glands as well. Corolla tube 2.4-3 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 3-4 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-1.2 x 0.8-1 mm, anticous lobe 1.5-2 x 0.8-1.2 mm, all lobes elliptic-oblong, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.2-1.8 mm long, anticous filaments 1.6-2 mm long, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 2-3.3 mm long, style pubescent. Ovary c. 0.5 x 0.3 mm. Cocci 1.4-1.9 x 0.8-1.2 mm, dark red-brown, smooth.
