Characteristics

Well branched dwarf shrublet c. 300-450 mm tall, main branches stout (up to c. 5 mm in diam.), erect or decumbent, nude, young branches puberulous, hairs less than 0.1 mm long, retrorse, closely leafy. Leaves opposite and bases connate throughout, or subopposite, or becoming alternate in upper part, fascicled, largest primary leaves 5-20 x 0.6-1.2 mm, linear, apex acute, apiculate, base narrowed then abruptly expanded and half-clasping, margins entire, strongly revolute (thickened), texture thick, midrib not or scarcely visible, glabrous except for minute hairs on margins at clasping base; axillary leaves similar but often smaller. Inflorescence terminal, composed of few-flowered crowded racemes themselves crowded into narrow panicles c. 40-100 x 15-20 mm, smaller on very small twigs. Bract adnate to pedicel and calyx tube, lowermost 3.3-5 x 1-2.1 mm, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, concave, concealing the sharply curved pedicel, leathery, glabrous except for hairs c. 0.1-0.15 mm long on lower margins. Pedicel up to c. 0.1-0.3 mm long. Calyx 2.2-3 mm long, campanulate, usually 5-lobed (occasionally 3-4-lobed) less than halfway to base, 2 anticous lobes much broader than other three, all lobes oblong-deltoid, ± obtuse, hairs up to 0.15-0.2 mm long on margins, c. 0.1-0.2 mm long on outside of posticous face. Corolla tube 4-4.8 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 4-5.8 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.3-1.8 x 1-1.6 mm (rarely posticous lip undivided), anticous lobe 2.1-2.8 x 1.1-1.8 mm, all lobes elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 2.1-2.8 mm long, anticous filaments 2.3-3.1 mm, all anthers well exerted. Stigma and style c. 4.2-5.5 mm long, style usually glabrous, occasionally a few minute hairs. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.7 mm. Cocci c. 2-2.3 x 1.4-1.6 mm, light yellowish-brown, smooth, inner face plane.
