Characteristics

Perennial herb with thin irregular woody caudex producing short stolons each terminating in one or a few aerial stems 350-800 mm long, c. 1-3 mm diam., simple or subsimple, erect or decumbent, pubescent, hairs up to 0.15-0.3 mm long, retrorse, closely leafy becoming pedunculoid below the inflorescence. leaves alternate, fascicled, largest primary leaves 10-22 x 0.8-2(-3)mm, smaller and less crowded upwards, linear (basal ones occasionally elliptic), apex acute, callose-dpped, base slightly narrowed to a very short petiolar part, margins thickened, entire, midrib strongly raised on lower surface, hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long often confined to midline on lower surface, sometimes extending to upper surface. Inflorescence a compact terminal glomerule c. 15 mm in diam. when fully expanded, 1 or 2 somewhat distant flowers sometimes present at base, scarcely elongating in fruit, either solitary or up to c. 8 ascending simple lateral branches c. 50-150 mm long sometimes arising below terminal glomerule, each bearing a glomerule. Bract adnate to pedicel only, lowermost 4.2-5.2 x 0.7-1.6 mm, lanceolate, concave, strongly keeled and with a broad membranous margin, hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long on margins and keel. Pedicel up to 0.5-1 mm long. Calyx 4.2-6.8 mm long, tubular, subequally 54obed, lobes much shorter than tube, deltoid, subacute, pubescent all over, hairs up to 0.1-0.3 mm long, accrescent to enclose cocci. Corolla tube 6-8.8 mm long, cylindric, slightly inflated near apex, limb 4.2-6.2 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.5-2.2 x 1.2-2 mm, anticous lobe 2-2.8 x 1-1.7 mm, all lobes narrowly to broadly elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-2 mm long, anthers included, anticous filaments 1.2-2 mm long, anthers very shortly exerted. Stigma and style 8-11 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary c. 1 x 0.7 mm. Cocci c. 2.6 x 0.8 mm, ± oblong, smooth, brown.
