Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems several tufted from a stout woody stock, 200 mm-1.2 m long, procumbent, decumbent or more or less erect, usually simple below the inflorescence, pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.4 mm long, recurved, closely leafy at least on upper part. Leaves alternate, fascicled, largest primary leaves 7-35 x 1-7 mm, smaller upwards (also axillary leaves smaller), oblong to elliptic, apex acute, callose-tipped, base tapering, margins thickened, usually entire, sometimes with up to 4 pairs of teeth, glandular-punctate, scabrid hairs 0.1-0.15(-0.2)mm long confined to margins and midline on both surfaces, sometimes wanting on upper midline. Inflorescence a compact corymbose panicle up to 40-90 mm in diam., individual racemes with up to c. 10 flowers, these crowded. Bract adnate to pedicel and base of calyx tube, blade of lowermost 1.8-2.3 x 0.9-1.3 mm, elliptic, apex ± obtuse, deeply concave, ± embracing calyx, strongly keeled, margins membranous, broad, pale, keel scabrid, hairs c. 0.1 mm long, occasionally also on upper margins. Pedicel (lowermost) 1-3(-4)mm long. Calyx 1.7-2.1 mm long, campanulate, subequally 5-lobed, lobes 0.5-0.8 mm long, mostly obtuse or rounded, often ± toothed or abruptly apiculate, minutely glandular on anticous side, otherwise glabrous or with hairs 0.1 mm long on margins. Corolla tube 1.6-2.2 mm long, broadly funnel-shaped, limb 3-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 0.8-1.8 x 0.7-1.1 mm, anticous lobe 1.3-3 x 0.7-1.5 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.7 mm long, anthers shortly to well exerted; anticous filaments 1.4-2.4 mm long, anthers well exerted. Stigma and style 1.6-3.1 mm long, style puberulous. Ovary c. 0.7 x 0.3 mm. Cocci 1.7-2 x 0.8-1 mm, ± oblong, almost smooth, brown. Flowering in any month.
