Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems few, tufted from a woody caudex c. 10 mm in diam., 300-750 mm long, 2-4 mm in diam., erect, simple or very sparingly branched at base, branching above into the compound inflorescence (if apex damaged, will produce a few branches each terminating in a small panicle), clad in patent acute hairs c. 0.2-0.6 mm long, densely and minutely glandular as well, closely leafy. leaves alternate, fascicled, primary leaves mostly 4-10 x 0.8-2 mm, linear to narrowly elliptic (axillary leaves similar), apex acute, callose-tipped, base slightly narrowed, margins entire, thickened, both surfaces very minutely glandular, acute hairs c. 0.1 mm long as well. Inflorescence composed of very compact glomerules c. 7-10 mm in diam., each terminating a leafy to pedunculoid twig c. 30-60 mm long (occasionally sparingly branched), twigs arranged in a narrow panicle. Bract adnate to pedicel and extreme base of calyx tube, lowermost elliptic, concave, 3.8-5 x 1-1.8 mm, glandular-puberulous, acute hairs 0.1-0.2 mm long as well. Pedicel (lowermost) 0.5-1.2 mm long. Calyx 4.3-5 mm long, tubular, anticous lip very shortly cleft (c. 0.8-1.2 mm) into 4 lobes, posticous lobe isolated by splits c. 2.1-3.8 mm deep, all lobes narrowly deltoid, very acute, minutely glandular-puberulous all over, acute hairs c. 0.2-0.25 mm long as well, accrescent to enclose the cocci. Corolla tube 4-5.3 mm long, subcylindric, limb 3.8-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.5-2 x 1-1.3 mm, anticous lobe 2-2.3 x 1-1.4 mm, all lobes narrowly to broadly elliptic, white flushed mauve, or mauve in bud opening white, or wholly mauve, puberulous outside. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.2-1.5 mm long, anthers included; anticous filaments 1.5-2 mm long, anthers in mouth. Stigma and style 2.7-4.3 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary 0.5-0.7 x 0.4 mm. Cocci c. 2.5 x 0.8 mm, smooth, light brown.
