Characteristics

Perennial herb up to c. 1 m tall, stock stout, woody, crowned with thin fibrous leaf bases, flowering stem simple or occasionally forking once or twice low down, glabrous or slightly cobwebby, leafy. Radical and lower cauline leaves up to c. 35 x 2.5 cm, about half the length petiolar, blade linear-lanceolate, apex acute, base gradually tapering into the thin, wiry petiole, margins minutely and sometimes closely callose-denticulate, often subrevolute, glabrous though sometimes cobwebby at first; cauline leaves similar but soon sessile, passing into linear-lanceolate bracts. Heads radiate, up to c. 20 on long peduncles corymbose-paniculately arranged, peduncles very scaly particularly near the heads. Involucre turbinate, bracts 12-13, 7.5-11 mm long, about equalling the disc, nerves resinous, calyculus bracts few, short (mostly less than one quarter the length of the involucral bracts). Rays 8, long, spreading, corolla lobes of disc flowers with a median line, rays and disc bright yellow. Achenes c. 6 mm long, tapering at both ends, ribbed, glabrous.
