Characteristics

A slender voluble herbaceous twiner, stems and leaves somewhat succulent, all parts glabrous. Leaves up to 5 x 5.5 cm, ovate-deltoid, sometimes obscurely lobed, base more or less truncate, margins mostly irregularly denticulate, sometimes nearly smooth, upper surface sometimes prettily mottled grey-green on dark green, lower surface sometimes rich violet, petiole about as long as the blade, usually curved. Heads radiate, solitary or up to 7 corymbosely or subumbellately arranged, peduncles axillary and terminal, long, nude or remotely bracteate. Involucre turbinate, bracts c. 12, 8 mm long, nerves resinous, calyculus bracts few, short. Rays c. 8, very conspicuous, they and the disc bright yellow, corolla lobes each with a median resinous line. Achenes c. 4.5 mm, cylindric, ribbed, glabrous.
