Characteristics

Virgate biennial herb up to 1-2 m tall, branches woody, roughly pubescent, closely leafy. Leaves up to 150 x 3 mm, linear to linear-lanceolate, tapering at both apex and base, margins generally revolute, smooth or denticulate, both surfaces nearly glabrous or with a sparse, minute, rough pubescence. Heads discoid, few to many on bracteate peduncles corymbosely arranged. Involucre campanulate, bracts c. 20, 8-11 mm long, a little shorter than the disc, keeled, with resinous lines, amply calycled. Flowers buff-coloured or pale creamy yellow. Achenes c. 2.5 mm long, cylindric, ribbed, glabrous.
