Coarse perennial herb, 60–150 cm high; stems erect, pubescent.. Basal and stem leaves broadly ovate, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 7.5–14.5 cm long, 2.5–12 cm wide, base cordate, margins dentate to bidentate, apex rounded; petiole unwinged, exauriculate, 7–18 cm long, the upper stem leaves gradually becoming sessile, auriculate, semi-amplexicaul; upper stem leaves 4–12.5 cm long, 1.2–6 cm wide; all leaves membraneous, sparsely pubescent on veins beneath.. Capitula radiate, erect, numerous in divaricately-branched terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula arcuate-divaricate, pubescent; involucre cylindrical, 9 mm long, 4.5 mm in diameter, slightly pubescent at the base; bracts of calyculus 8–12, linear to lanceolate, 3.5–7 mm long, pubescent on margins or sometimes glabrous, bearded at the apex; phyllaries 18–22, 7–8.5 mm long, pubescent or glabrous, bearded at the apex.. Ray florets 10–13, yellow, corolla tube 4.5–5 mm long, glabrous, rays 15–18 mm long, 3.5–4.5 mm wide, 4–7-veined; disc florets yellow, corolla 6.5–8 mm long, the tube slightly expanded from just below the middle, glabrous, lobes 1 mm long.. Achenes 3–4.5 mm long, slightly hairy or glabrous; pappus 6.5–7 mm long.
