Radical leaves up to c. 40 cm long, about one third petiole-like, blade up to 6 cm broad, cauline leaves smaller, passing gradually into bracts, oblong-lanceolate, apex acute, base narrowed then often somewhat auriculate, decurrent on the stem in conspicuous wings, margins of blade and wings callose-denticulate, both surfaces glabrous, or cobwebby, then upper surface glabrescent, or cobwebby below. Heads radiate, usually many in a broad, flat-topped corymbose panicle. Involucre campanulate, bracts c. 20, 7-8 mm long, shorter than the disc, calyculus bracts many, in several series, margins glandular, whole involucre occasionally lightly cobwebby.
