Characteristics

Glandular-pubescent perennial herb up to 35 cm tall, stock stout, woody, flowering stems several from the crown, simple or branching from near the base, remotely leafy. Leaves mostly radical, up to c. 10 x 1 cm, lanceolate, apex acute, narrowed to a petiole-like base accounting for up to half the total leaf length, expanded below, half-clasping, margins irregularly serrate to pinnatisect, then lobes more or less oblong, usually toothed, sinuses obliquely rounded; cauline leaves up to c. 3 x 0.5 cm, decreasing in size upwards and passing into inflorescence bracts, linear-lanceolate, base eared, half-clasping, margins sharply serrate. Heads radiate, several on long peduncles corymbose-paniculately arranged. Involucre campanulate, bracts c. 13-18, 6-7.5 mm long, about equalling the disc, nerves resinous, calyculus bracts very few, short, all glandular-pubescent. Rays 8-11, relatively short, soon reflexed, they and the disc bright yellow, corolla lobes with a resinous median line running back down the inflated part of the tube. Achenes 3 mm long, narrowly cylindric, closely ribbed, hispid.
