Characteristics

Perennial herb to 1.2 m high; stems erect, arachnoid-floccose, glabrescent.. Basal leaves narrowly elliptic, 15–32 cm long, 2–4.4 cm wide, base petioloid and attenuate, margins slightly dentate, apex acute; median stem leaves sessile, oblong, 23–29 cm long, 3.6–5 cm wide, attenuate into a petioloid base, margins strongly sinuate-dentate, apex shortly acuminate-apiculate, coriaceous, sparsely arachnoid on midrib beneath, glabrescent; upper stem leaves sessile, ovate-lanceolate, 7 cm long, 0.6–2 cm wide, with expanded auriculate semi-amplexicaul base.. Capitula erect, discoid, numerous in dense rounded terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula densely arachnoid, with stalked glands; involucre broadly cylindrical, 7–8 mm long, 6–8 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 8–11, lanceolate, 2.5–7 mm long, acute, arachnoid; phyllaries 18–21, 8 mm long, arachnoid, also glandular-pubescent, long-tapered at apex.. Ray florets 0; disc florets yellow, corolla 5–9 mm long, tube glabrous, abruptly expanded above the middle, lobes 1–1.3 mm long.. Achenes 4–4.5 mm long, glabrous; pappus 9 mm long, white.
