Characteristics

Glabrous somewhat glaucous perennial herb with a stout woody stock, not woolly at the crown, flowering stem up to 2.4 m tall, solitary, simple below the inflorescence branches, closely leafy throughout. Leaves leathery, up to 20 x 1.5 cm, decreasing slightly in size upwards, elliptic, apex abruptly contracted to a small apiculus, base rounded, stem-clasping and all but the uppermost reduced leaves (inflorescence leaves) shortly decurrent, margins finely and closely callose-dentate, side nerves abruptly ascending then spreading almost at right angles to the midrib before looping upwards near the margin. Reads discoid, many in rather congested corymbose clusters arranged in a large corymbose panicle. Involucre narrowly cylindric, bracts 4-5, 7-9 mm long, reaching only to the base of the expanded part of the corollas, flat, leathery, nerves resinous, calyculus bracts 0-2, very small, with usually a few small bracts on the peduncles. Flowers bright yellow. Achenes not seen, ovaries glabrous.
