Coarse perennial herb, 40–120(–200) cm high, subscapigerous; stems solitary, erect, whitish, arachnoid.. Basal leaves sessile, lanceolate, narrowly lanceolate, elliptic or oblanceolate, 26–45 cm long (including 8.5–13.5 cm long petioloid base), 1.2–4 cm wide, attenuate into a petioloid base, margins sinuate-dentate, apex acute, green and glabrescent to glabrous above, white-tomentose except sometimes for glabrescent midrib beneath; stem leaves smaller and becoming progressively smaller up the stem, the lower ± expanded-auriculate and semi-amplexicaul at the base.. Capitula erect, radiate, 5–15 in a lax terminal corymb; stalks of the individual capitula tomentose; involucre broadly cylindrical, 9–15 mm long, arachnoid-tomentose; bracts of calyculus 10–22, imbricate, lanceolate, 6–12 mm long, arachnoid-tomentose; phyllaries ± 16–30, 10–12 mm long, arachnoid-tomentose, apically bearded.. Ray florets 8–20, lemon to deep yellow, corolla tube 5–6.5 mm long, glabrous, rays 11–14 mm long, 3–4 mm wide, 7–12-veined; disc florets yellow, corolla 7–10 mm long, tube slightly expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 0.8–1 mm long, ovate-triangular, erect..
